In yet another glorious achievement of the SMART technology revolution, hackers have supposedly taken control of smart refrigerators across Ireland and Europe.
But isn’t the timing just fascinating?
First, people across Europe were encouraged to prepare for emergencies, with leaflets, survival advice, emergency kits and instructions on how to survive without essential services.
And now, quite conveniently, cyberattacks are becoming the next big nightmare.
What remarkable timing! Almost as if someone had prepared the public for the crisis before the crisis even arrived.
And isn’t it extraordinary how organised the whole narrative appears?
Of course, there’s another convenient ingredient: Russia!
After years of European political messaging portraying Russia as the enemy, what better suspect could there possibly be?
Something goes wrong with the electricity?
Russia. Internet goes down? Russia.
Your smart fridge refuses to give you your cheese?
Well, obviously, Putin must be personally responsible!
But now, let’s turn the whole story upside down.
What if our own governments had secretly paid hackers to carry out the attacks?
Or better still, why waste taxpayers’ money hiring hackers when the technology companies could simply arrange a few convenient “technical incidents” themselves, following a little encouragement from the authorities?
Think of the savings!
Those almost Nostradamus-like emergency preparedness leaflets distributed across Europe could finally fulfil their prophecy.
And the best part? We already have the perfect villain!
THE EVIL RUSSIANS HAVE HACKED OUR FRIDGES!
Excellent!
Now we have another excuse to escalate tensions, demand extraordinary emergency powers, and perhaps even convince the public that another war is necessary.
And while everyone is busy worrying about Russian hackers stealing their frozen peas, we can introduce even more surveillance, more digital restrictions and more centralised control.
Why stop at controlling refrigerators?
Let’s control cars, bank accounts, electricity, heating, internet access and eventually every aspect of daily life.
Oh, wait a minute!
All these things are already becoming digital and interconnected. Which means they can potentially be hacked, remotely disabled, restricted or manipulated.
Hang on… Is it possible that this is precisely why we’ve been pushed into making absolutely EVERYTHING SMART in the first place?
How convenient would that be? A society where almost everything depends on systems that ordinary people neither own nor control.
In fact, why wait for some imaginary hacker to commit a cybercrime?
With enough SMART technology, perhaps we could eventually detect suspicious thoughts before anyone even thinks them!
PRE-CRIME PREVENTION! HOW BRILLIANT!
And, naturally, we must never forget our favourite strategy:
FIRST CREATE THE SOLUTION. THEN MANUFACTURE THE PROBLEM.
Develop a solution, manufacture a crisis, frighten millions of people, and then watch them beg for whatever protection is offered.
And what might that wonderful protection look like?
Perhaps 24/7 surveillance cameras on every street, facial recognition at every corner, digital identification required for everyday activities, permanent monitoring of financial transactions, location tracking, and AI systems analysing everyone’s movements, purchases, conversations and behaviour.
Why not go even further? Smart meters monitoring energy consumption, connected vehicles reporting every journey, and automated systems deciding whether someone should be allowed access to particular services.
All in the name of public safety, naturally!
Imagine a world where every movement is recorded, every transaction is traceable, every conversation can be analysed, and every individual has a digital profile.
WHO NEEDS PRISON WALLS WHEN THE ENTIRE SOCIETY CAN BECOME ONE GIANT DIGITAL PRISON?
And the most extraordinary part? People might even welcome it, provided they’re frightened enough of the next emergency.
Remember all those arguments about COVID vaccines, pharmaceutical interests and the extraordinary powers introduced during the pandemic?
Imagine taking the most extreme conspiracy theory imaginable: invent the vaccine first, rebrand ordinary influenza as a terrifying horror monster, and then watch millions beg for the solution.
What a wonderfully convenient business model that would be!
After all, nothing sells control quite like fear.
And nothing makes people surrender their independence faster than convincing them that surrendering it is the only way to stay safe.
And why stop there? Offer everyone a generous Universal Basic Income, just like Elon Musk has been talking about. Give people a few months to get comfortable with it, let them build their entire lives around it, and then introduce the ultimate control mechanism:
“Don’t comply with our rules? Your Universal Basic Income will be suspended.”
Suddenly, refusing to obey could mean no money for rent, no electricity, no heating, and no food.
First, make people financially dependent on the system. Then make their survival conditional on obedience.
And there you have it — a digital prison where nobody needs to lock the doors, because everyone is too afraid to lose the income that keeps them alive.
Welcome to the SMART future!
You paid for the technology. You pay for the electricity. You pay for the internet.
And someone else might hold the OFF switch to your entire life.
Everything is SMART — except the people who never question who controls it.
